Ushuaia has been called "the gateway to Antarctica" by many. Ushuaia is home to both luxury cruises ships and large, rugged icebreakers. Ushuaia's location on the Beagle Channel, at Argentina’s southernmost tip, makes it a great place to visit. Ushuaia, a port of great beauty and importance that supplies bases in the Antarctica region is an ideal place to visit. It feels like the end of the earth.
Ushuaia has many attractions, including its rock mountains, the steam train "Train and the End of the World", and the museums and cultural centres. Beagle Channel offers a chance to see penguins, seals and wildlife up close.
We begin our expedition after a safety drill. Beagle Channel was named for Charles Darwin's ship. The steep-sided Strait that separates Tierra del Fuego and Chile in South Argentina is called the Beagle Channel. It was the start of thousands of explorations. As we near the Drake Passage, keep an eye out for dolphins and marine life.
